Really Learn Polish (this time)

I have -intended- to learn Polish for a while and have made a few false starts (so standgale, you'll imagine this community resonated with me, haha). But I finally promised myself that I would study for just a half hour every day, and see where that gets me. I'm starting at square one, so progress will be slow, but very noticeable - I hope so, anyway!! =)

So far I have listened to the audio book for Mały Książę while I followed along with the print. Then I read the English, then go back and do the Polish again. So far I'm not taking notes or studying grammar from this, I'm just getting used to the spellings and sounds (ą and ę are killers for me!) and seeing what I pick up. I've only done the first 2 chapters, so I haven't gleaned too much, but we'll see how I feel at the end of the book.

Of course I'm making use of Oscar Swan's textbook. I'm still working through chapter 1. It seems like there should be mp3's to this, but I can't get them to work. If anyone knows anything about this, please let me know!

I'm also working through the textbook "Colloquial Polish". For me it's helpful to go over similar concepts from Swan's book a second time, or have them presented a different way.

I might check in every week or so with what I've done lately, even if it's just to tell you I'm on the next chapter. =)

hey cool!
yeah, let us know how you're going, and what you're finding useful on your Polish journey :)
I am in a down-time at the moment - I did so well for, like, two months a while ago but then stopped for some reason. sigh... :)
which "colloquial polish" do you have? who's the author or editor?
if you've got the oscar swan pdf, you need to be connected to the internet and have at least version 8 of adobe acrobat reader. I'm not sure it works with any other pdf readers. this is because the sound files are on the internet and when you click on the icons in the pdf, the pddf reader goes onto the internet to find them and then plays them for you.

I have Colloquial Polish by Bolesław W. Mazur. It got pretty good reviews on Amazon (and the ones that pointed out problems just let me know what to look out for). =) I have previously gone through the first 3 chapters, and I like it pretty well.

Thanks for the help with the Swan mp3s. However, it seems like my computer is still just too stubborn to play them. I might try poking around a little more - but so far I've been enjoying the book on its own anyway.

Congratulations on a two month streak!! It's nice to know you can do it, even if you're in a down time now.
